Mazda 3 - vibrating noise in dash

I have recently taken delivery of a new Mazda 3 (manual transmission).  There is a vibrating noise somewhere in the steering wheel area of the dash.  It is most noticable when accelerating and decelerating in 2nd and 3rd gears.  Of course the dealer service guy can't hear it and I have to prove to the Factory representative that there is a problem.  Has anyone had this?

I’ve had exactly the same problem !  A buzzing noise around 2,100rpm – pushing up through gears or coming down, although mine has started to stay constant around that RPM range now.  It doesn’t do it when in neutral either, odd.  My Mazda 3 hatch is at the dealer getting looked at right now.  It seems to only start making the noise after driving for a while, as when I took the mechanic for a drive this morning it would not do it.  Very annoying.  I’ve had the car in once before to Mazda, they reported that they couldn’t find a problem, tightened things up and the noise went away for about a week.  And now it’s back to haunt me !   I’ll keep you posted with what I hear today, otherwise if anyone else has this problem – and a solution, please post here !

After 150 miles I am part of the noise club. Bought mine new 3 days ago and the dash rattle showed up this morning. I thought it was the door speaker at first as I tend to push the base pretty hard so I shutoff the radio and it is still there.

The noise got away! I have got a new Mazda 3 car with a rattle noise from the dash\wheel. It occurred especially when the car was around 2,500 rpm and gear 2-3. In the garage they could not recreate this noise. After I've been there twice and it was not recreated, they put grease on the wheel, while they open the wheel area they found some piece of plastic that was not connected hard. The connect it and I do not hear noise more than a week.

Guys ,

I was haveing the same probelm with my new M3 and also when i took the car to the dealer , it didnt came out .

Then i keep looking for the sound from where it's come tel i found it ,,,

Look under the steering you will see the A/C vent Duct will give the air to the legs and foot aery , thes duct will be loos and if you touch it by hand it moving and u will notice the loos in it .
So , just try to fix it with some thing like tape or but behind it a pice of spong to tight it .

My Mazda 3 A/C or heater blower don't turn on.  Does any body out there where to locate the resettable fuse or relay.  Look under the hood all fuses are good and A/C engage when i switch the A/C button on.

Does anyone have any problems with the gas tank?  My gas tank keeps leaking gas.  I have the same issues with the check engine light and the dash vibration as well.

I've had my Mazda 3 (2004) for several years.  All of the sudden, the air doesn't want to come on until I've driven for a short distance.  I've tried setting all the switches at different settings but that doesn't do anything.  The air will then suddenly come on for no apparent reason.  Normally I would say it's acting like a short but I don't know.  Does anyone else have this problem and what was the fix?  By the way, the air blows cold when it does come on so that's not a problem.

I have a 2004 Mazda 3 also and the A/C or heater blower doesn't turn on.  After driving awhile, it will all of the sudden start blowing air but then may shut off just as suddenly.  It acts like a loose wire but I doubt if its that. Has anyone else encountered this problem.  The A/C does engage when i switch the A/C button on but the blower only comes on whenever it feels like it.

Hi,

I have the same noise...

I think this noise is comming from AIR filter housing. The housing is vibrating. There are couple of screw, with cylinderic rubber out them. I think that outer diameter of ribber is small, or maybe lenght is short.

And, if you even tight very mach the screw, there exist space between housing and the screw (there is ribber).

Best regards,
olis

I have the same problem and it drives me crazy but again when I want to prove and let the mechanic hear it the car wouldn't make that noise. It occurs randomly and especially when I am around that range you were all speaking about .It is frustrating and even more so that you cannot describe the type of noise and put your finger on it.

Argh! My Mazda made the noise from mile 2. 2 miles! Its a strange vibration noise that is independent of the engine since it does not vary with RPM's. I can not hear it under the hood - only inside. Very annoying.

Hi,

Mine is a 2006 model mazda3 - and located in the UAE(hot hot weather ).Last service was the 35,000 km service, ever since the car came back from service , i can hear a rattling/buzzinmg noise at very low speed - in the first gear. When car goes into neutral noise shuts off, but back again at low speed. When i accelerate quickly, the rattling doesnt start . Has anyone had this very irritating problem with their mazda3? the mechanic simply doesnt seem to be able to hear the noise - but i love my car , and i know the sounds, and this certainly is TROUBLING!! Help!!!

I Have a 08 Speed3, It had the rattle that sounds like it was under the hood, or deep in the dash behind the steering wheel.  I took it to the dealer and they installed some sort of shim kit to cowling for the windshield.  They told me they had a technical bulliten issued about the problem. I fixed the rattle.  I have a few misc. rattle now and then, but I also have a heavy duty rear motor mount which causes a little more vibration in the car.

Hope this helps.

I had this problem before. It got to a point where it would light up all the dashboard lights and loose power. The problem started happening about 3 days after I got it brand new from the dealer. I then went back to have the electronics checked but they didn't find anything.
I lived with it for the years that I had it. I changed the batteries but still was happening then the problem happened on the freeway, and that was the last straw.
I then went to a Mazda service center and turned it in. Good thing it was still under warranty so I saved money on that. Come to find out the, and surprisingly, the alternator was cracked, and so that needed to be changed. A whole bunch of other things got changed but I'm too much of a newb on cars to understand.

The source of the buzzing sound could be misleading. Try to seat in different places in the car. I had mine new 2009 Mazda 6 for 6 months and just now the vibrating sound from the right side of the dash would drive me crazy. I burned on CD different sine waves and played them through the car stereo to find the one that brings the noise. Voila - at 75 Hz the vibration sound was crystal clear. I was sitting in the passenger seat and now the noise was coming from the left - WTF??? After mucking around for 2 minutes - guess what - the sound was coming from the overhead console where my sun glasses were sitting. I removed the glasses and the annoyance was gone. Go figure - acoustics in closed space.

I have the same rattling noise under the hood that many of you are talking about. It sounds like two dice knocking together. I haven't had anything done about it. As well, the engine has pinged since I got the car brand new and the dealership just told me to use the more expensive gas. Lastly, my car just developed a shimmy about 5 weeks ago. I had a mechanic friend take it for a drive yesterday and he thought it might be the spark plugs not firing properly. They were all good. He checked out the tires, nothing there. When I spoke to the dealership they said they would put it on the computer to check for updates. My question is, shouldn't they have received a TSB about this problem without having to actually hook up the car to the laptop? Searching for an anwswer, Fanny

I fixed my Mazda 6 07's rattle issue using the following DIY.

Rattling noise was coming form the passenger side front engine mount.  There is a thin layer of rubber on the mount which cracks and breaks after a few or few thousand kms and the engine support bracket rattles on top of the engine mount metal (metal to metal rattle remember there is no rubber in between now).
(Note: Noise was coming during idling and accelaration, but stopped when put into neutral)

The Fix:

1) Get a 3mm high quality rubber (industrial sealing rubber).

2) Support the engine with the floor jack or car jack from the oil pan (use wooden piece in between jack and oil pan.

3) Open 17mm bolt on top of the engine mount.

4) Cut out the rubber according to the mount shape. (circular with a slot for the bolt area, slot will make it easier to slide the rubber sealing)

5) lift the engine just enough so you can slide the rubber between the mount and the engine support mount(top).

6) Lower the engine completely and tighten the 17mm bolt to 55-60 N.M.

7) DONE.... Enjoy the quiet ride.

(The problem is in the design of the mount, replacing with new mount will not solve the problem)
